高中英语必修二 《Unit 5 Music》 Reading -- The band that wasn’t The second period说课稿

Good morning, my dearest teachers. Today it’s my great honor to be here sharing my lesson with you .The content of the lesson is New Senior English for China Students Book 2 Unit 5 《Music》,the second period of the reading part--The band that wasn’t. Now I will begin my lesson from the following eight parts: the analysis of teaching material; the analysis of students; the analysis of learning goals; the analysis of teaching key points and difficult points; the analysis of teaching and learning methods; the analysis of teaching aids; the analysis of teaching procedures and the blackboard design.

First, let me talk about the teaching material. Part.1 Analysis of teaching materials

This unit is about music and different types of music, which is one of the most interesting topics in the middle school students’ daily life. and the reading part is the center of this unit, it is about the form and the development of the Monkees Band. By studying this passage, the students will learn from the Monkees that “No matter what difficulties you are facing, never give up, and remember we can!”

Part. 2 Analysis of students

Our students are Senior high school students of the first grade. They are familiar with topic and interested in listening to music . In addition, after many years of English learning, the students of Senior One have already mastered many words , sentences and some reading skills to solve English problems. Meanwhile, they can

also discuss in groups when it comes to some questions. However, they can’t use what they have learned to express themselves freely and communicate with others fluently. So in this period, I would arrange a variety of activities to help them take part in the class.

Part.3 Analysis of learning goals

Based on the new standard of English curriculum and the characteristics of the students, I set the following learning goals:

1. Knowledge goals:

A. To read some new words “musician, attach and so on.”

B. To understand how the Monkees Band formed, developed and succeeded through reading the passage. 2. Ability goals:

A. To develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

B. To train the basic reading skills, especially the combination of skimming and scanning. 3. Emotional goals:

A. To know the importance of music in our daily life and how to form a band.

B. To learn the spirit of the Monkees after learning this passage: No matter what difficulties you are facing, never give up!

Part.4 Analysis of teaching key points and difficult points 1. Key points:

To read the new words and to understand how the Monkees formed, developed and succeeded.

2. Difficult points:

To use their own words to express their own ideas towards music. Part.5 Analysis of teaching methods and learning methods

To help students achieve the learning goals much better and easier, I’ll mainly use “Task-based”, “group discussion”and “communicative” teaching methods. For students, they will be encouraged to study by themselves, and they will learn to communicate with others, and become the real host of the class.

Part.6 Analysis of teaching aids

In order to catch students’ attention and make them interested in this lesson, I prepared multimedia, pictures, some fragment types of music and the songs that sung by the Monkees.

Part.7 Analysis of teaching procedures

This is the most important part in this design, it can be divided into following steps:

Step1 three minutes before class

Read the black words and phrases in this passage three times together. Step2 revision ( 5mins)

Listen to different fragment types of music and get the students to match different types of music with right pictures that they learned in Warming-up and say some names of famous singers and musicians after they saw some pictures.

Purpose of my design: To review the words related to music and draw the students’ attention to the topic about music.

Step3 Lead in ( 5mins )

1. Ask the students to have a discussion in groups for 2 minutes:

“If a group of two or more musicians sing or play instruments together, they will be called a band. “ Now discuss with your partners about some famous bands in and abroad ,and list some that you know.

2. Enjoy the song that sung by the Monkees: “I am a believer”, after it, show the picture of brief introduction of the Monkees. Then I will say:”do you want to know more about the Monkees? Now let’s turn to page 34.”

Purpose of my design: Through the discussion and listening to the song, the students will be eager to know something about the Monkees band and this is the very time to naturally lead the class into Step 4.

Step 4 reading

1. Fast reading ( 10mins)

Task 1: Listen to the tape once, and answer these three questions: (1) (2) (3)

Which two musical bands were mentioned in the passage? When did “The Monkees” break up and when did it reunite? When did\" The Monkees\" celebrate their time as a real band?

Purpose of my design: before listening, they go over these three questions quickly and have them in their mind, then they underline the answers in the passage as they are listening to the tape. Thus, it not only improves their listening, but also they can answer them correctly.

Task 2: read the passage quickly to match the main idea of each paragraph. Para. 1 A. The Monkees started in a different way.

Para. 2 B. Many people want to be famous as singers or musicians. Para. 3 C. How the Monkees became popular and how they developed as

a real band.

Para. 4 D. This is how most bands start.

Purpose of my design: To get some related information from the passage. This method is used to train the students to get the main idea of the passage. And it is also a good chance for them to improve their skimming skills. 2. Careful reading: (15mins)

Read the passage quickly and join the correct parts of the sentences together.

(1) They produced a new record in 1996 A but only one person was accepted (2) Most musicians get together and B but reunited in the mid-1980s

(3) They put an ad. in the newspaper C form a band because they like to write

looking for four rock musicians and play music

(4) The first TV show D to celebrate their time as a band

(5) However, the band broke up about 1970 E was a big hit.

Purpose of my design: To make the students understand how the Monkees formed, developed and succeeded better, and then realize never give up no matter what difficulties you are facing.

3 : Post reading:

Discussion: What we have learned from the Monkees ? 4: Conclusion

Today we have learned something about the Monkees band . music is very important in our daily life. I hope you can be optimistic no matter what difficulties you meet with, just as the Monkees band does-- Never give up!

Purpose of my design :To practise the skill of summary. Step 5 Homework

Please read the passage three times and underline the key points and difficult sentences.
