Summer Romance
------Film Review about the Notebook
It is a romantic story about love and memory.
At the beginning of the film, an old man comes to read a book for an old woman, they seem don’t know each other, just two lonely people live in the nursing home. Here the story goes: Allie was a lovely beautiful girl who is born in a rich family. And Noah is a handsome boy working as a blue-collar. They met in summer, and madly fell in love with each other .However, their love is not blessed by Allie’s family. When the summer’s over, Allie has to leave the town for university. And her mother hides all the letters from Noah. Then the Second World War breaks out, Noah joins the army and they loses track of each other. Seven years later, Allie is engaged to a promising officer, while Noah buys their dream house and rebuilds it as Allie’s wish. Somehow, they meet again, clear all the misunderstanding and get their passion back. Then Allie ends her engagement and lives with Noah happily. After many years, because of Alzheimer’s, Allie loses her memory. So Noah comes to read their love story for Allie everyday. He reads time to time and she gets her memory back. Although the memory can last only a few minutes, they never give up. In the end, they die on her bed, hand in hand. As if they are telling others nothing can do them apart, not even the death.
Before watching this movie, I thought this movie told a story of two young people’s sentimental love. After finishing it, my eyes are filled up with tears. As an
old Chinese saying goes: to hold your hand, to grow old with you. It’s not easy to find the right person to spend our whole life with. How many couples are defeated by time, distance, money or any other things? But they do. After seven years, they still love each other. I guess that is so-called power of love.
Although the story itself is common and old, Noah and Allie’s faithful love still moves everyone. The love in summer is the most beautiful and it symbolizes hope and passion. In particular, I’d like to mention the girl’s smile. That curvaceous smile is both sexy and vicious, just like the sun in summer. Whenever she smiles, I could see something in Noah’s eyes. That reminds me of the first scene that Noah meets Allie. I think that is love which fills up Noah’s heart as sunshine does, unresistingly.
Behind every great story is a great love. We should cherish the person standing by our side and make every minute counts.
